You are learning how to run a business and you also have to consider any potential legal implications of using and editing graphical images.  It would be a disaster if you were taken to court and sued.  Do some research into this area and write a short report summarising you findings. You should aim to cover:
  • Copyright law
  • Intellectual property

Copyright is when a company creates their own logo and another company takes it without permission and uses it as their own.

.
For example this is originally made by Nike and this is their own trade mark to go with their own logo. Other companies may take it and use it as their own to make fake ripoffs of the real version. This is copyright.

Intellectual property is when a different person who has not come up with that idea, steals the idea that the other person has created.
.

For example, Dyson hoovers created their own hoover of a ball so it can move more easily and if this idea was stolen this is intellectual property as they come up with that idea themselves using their own knowledge.

A trademark is an image of something that represents the shop. For example, a bird is Hollister's trademark and represents Hollister.

this photo was the one i first created. it is not good enough to be the band logo because it is very plain and the band logo has not been created with any affects.

i chose this one for my band logo due to the fact it was more creative and has a more effective band logo with a picture with the name to make it more eye catching.

Your bank manager would like you to think ahead. If the business is successful, you will need to improve the quality of your output devices.  If cost is not an issue what output mediums could you consider, how could they improve your business ?

1. Projector - A projector could improve picture quality and show it to viewers, where as if you only had a screen you would not be able to show people your work so this is better for your viewers.

2. Printer - A good quality printer would improve the design of leaflets or handouts or previews so if you had a top quality printer it could print pictures with more quality. also everyone can have a copy of everything.

Kodak ESP 3.2 wireless

3.Camera - to take good quality photographs for designs for example taking a photo of a landscape to use in a design, this would also allow you to take photos and are easier to manipulate as you have taken the photographs and everything would be the way you want it. where as if you went on google images it would not be want you want it to be like.

more details on Nikon D3100 14MP DSLR Camera.

4.  vinyl cutter -

This is a computer controlled blade cutter that cuts intricate art and letter patterns on a large feed vinyl sheet. This would be ideal to cut out large designs and would be a lot faster.  It is very handy to cut out intricate designs.

48 inch refine vinyl cutter (plotter)

Large format printer is ideal as it is brilliant for printing off larger designs such as posters or a logo for a company that would have to be large so the viewers have a clearer view of it.

Your first 3 customers have given you quite different tasks:
·         A local band would like a logo designed for their website this needs to be combined with their band photo.
·         A builder wants some eye catching text for the side of his van to improve business opportunities.
·         The nursery on your estate would like a flyer designed to promote the facility.
What type of graphic will you create for each customer and what file format should be used?  Explain your answers.

· A local band would like a logo designed for their website this needs to be combined with their band photo.

They should use a bitmap, jpeg or GIF file on fireworks or Photoshop as you can insert pictures and  images and text for their own logo they want to create.  if these get blown up to a large scale they will get pixleated, but as the logo is being used on a website it will be small.

·         A builder wants some text for the side of his van to improve business opportunities.

It can then be printed and cut out with a vinyl cutter and put on the van. They should use a vector file on adobe illustrator to make text for the side of his van. This is because it can be blown up to a large scale without being blury or pixleated.

·         The nursery on your estate would like a flyer designed to promote the facility.

They should use a PDF file on Microsoft word or publisher to create a graphic so that who ever they send it to can open it on what ever computer or device they are on, it is that simple. They do not need to have the program downloaded on their device
